ZXClub.netRepaint project - progress Post Posted: Mar 10th, '13, 08:53

Cars been baked, so the paint is pretty hard. I started building up the catches etc so the doors at least now shut. I've refitted all the door and tailgate looms.

This colour, like my previous paint is a 3 stage. You have your base coat, pearl midcoat and then lacquer. I have got 3 coats of lacquer on mine. The beauty of this colour is the high pearl content. The stock KH6 paint I had only has 50g of pearl per 1000g of midcoat, whereas Alfa's Bianco Nuvola has 850g per 1000g and also a very white base coat. KH6 is a little off-white. I do still kinda like KH6, but I find it a little lifeless under British skies.

Still not got my Z back! Just a few things to do and to sort out transport back from the paint shop.

One last photo, now complete with bonnet!

I'd leave it in there - you don't want outside germs getting on it!

Lovely job....thanks for the info on the paint.

STOP GIVING HIM IDEAS! lol

Looks stunning mate, can't wait to see it all back together and would love to see it in the flesh at Japfest? Get a ticket bought now through zClub (If you're not a zclub member you can buy as a zxclub member) and join us on the stand, would be awesome to catch up again.

'Thinking' about Japfest. Thanks for the heads-up.

Popped in yesterday to find the bumpers had been painted. Unfortunately there had been a paint reaction in a few small areas, so they'll need another flash over. Guess that's what you get unless you're completely stripping any remnants of old paint.

But they look pretty cool anyway.

The plastics on mine aren't being baked. It is a shame as it's only in a few spots. But the new paint basically now acts as a primer and the bumpers can then be reflashed. Right pain in the ass though.

Subframe doesn't need powdercoating. The underneath of my car is in very good condition and the subframe still has all of the nice factory-finish it originally came with. Bear in mind, my car was a grade 4 import and I never drive it in the rain/winter, it stays looking very good. It's cleaner than my 6month old Jetta.

Today! It's been done for a while, but I've struggled to organise transport.

Looks outstanding, great choice of colour.

What are you doing in terms of insurance, are you getting it covered to go back to this colour in the event of a prang? If so is it going up much?

I was meaning more along the lines of if it has to be repainted at any point will the insurance cover the extra cost as im presuming that paint costs more than the stock colour?

Nope, why would it? It's just a different mix The KH6 is a 3-stage pearl and so is this.

BTW, it's now back in my garage. Some crappy photos of it being loaded onto the transporter. As always, cameras are useless at defining pearl paints, but it's still pretty bright!.....

Obviously, bumper just rested there...

That's dust on the back boxes. The whole underside was masked off.

Oh right, didn't realise it was to that degree. I haven't actually even seen the thing even though we have met, I think it was dampish that day so you didn't bring it and came down with murt.
